Juchem agate geode from Germany
Juchem agate geode from Germany
Dimensions: approximately 7.5 x 9 cm.
Colorful agate from the Juchem quarry. The area around Idar-Oberstein in the southwestern part of Germany was a volcanically active area approximately 275 million years ago. In the “Juchem” quarry near the village of Niederwörresbach, two types of rock can be distinguished that are the direct result of this volcanism. Between these 2 basaltic rock formations there is an approximately 6 meter thick layer of sedimentary rock. This means that no volcanic activities have taken place for a while. The entire period (including that of sedimentation) lasted approximately 4 million years.
