The Tibetan Ghau was used to carry sacred relics, amulets and medicinal herbs, and acted as protection during travel. The ghau can be worn hanging from the neck or on a hip band or belt.
The small statue inside depicts a deity in Namaskra mudra, with palms pressed together in celebration. This deity symbolizes the union of the spiritual and material realms.
The ghau are made by a small group of Tibetan refugee artisans currently living in Nepal.
