The Day of the Dead is a holiday and commemoration day celebrated every year on November 1 and 2. The Day of the Dead 'Día de Los Muertos' originated from the traditions of the Mesoamerican Indian peoples. It has always been a ritual for the Aztecs and the Mayans, among others, to honor the dead. This was initially celebrated in August, but after the Spanish moved in, the Day of the Dead was moved to the Catholic holidays of All Saints and All Souls' Day and celebrated by both Catholics and indigenous people. In Mexico they believe that the dead visit them every year at the same time and then feel reunited with their deceased loved ones. They do everything they can to make it a big and loving celebration every year. Mexicans commemorate deceased relatives and friends with food and items that the deceased loved to have around them when they were alive.
